Edinburgh's City Plan 2030
The City of Edinburgh Council has adopted the City Plan 2030, an important framework that will guide the city's future development, sustainability, and environmental goals over the next decade.
This strategic plan prioritises green spaces, climate action, and sustainable development, all of which align closely with the Thriving Greenspaces Strategy. The Thriving Greenspaces Strategy focuses on enhancing and protecting Edinburgh's parks, nature reserves, and green corridors, ensuring that urban development is balanced with a strong commitment to the city's natural heritage.
The City Plan 2030 outlines key priorities that are directly supported by the Thriving Greenspaces Strategy:
- Green space protection and improvement: The City Plan includes ambitious goals for maintaining and expanding Edinburgh's green space network. Our strategy contributes to these goals with projects aimed at enhancing existing parks and creating new green spaces, such as wildflower meadows and wooded areas.
- Sustainability and climate action: Both the City Plan and the Thriving Greenspaces Strategy prioritise sustainability, focusing on biodiversity conservation and creating green corridors to help mitigate the effects of climate change.
- Community involvement and wellbeing: Our strategy promotes community engagement in greenspace management, which supports the City Plan’s focus on health, wellbeing, and social equity through accessible, high-quality outdoor spaces for all.
As the City Plan 2030 is now in place, the Thriving Greenspaces team will continue to work on projects that align with its goals. We are committed to expanding and enhancing green spaces, restoring natural habitats, and ensuring that the community is involved in the development of Edinburgh’s greenspaces.
